Driver Was High When He Hit Multiple Cars On 80: Fairfield PD

Fairfield police dispatched all available units Saturday, when a Franklin man struck multiple vehicles as he was traveling on I-80, Chief Anthony Manna said in a statement.

A gold Hyundai was spotted traveling erratically on the westbound side of the highway around 12:49 p.m., Manna said. Responding officers found the car stopped on the shoulder and its driver, whose name was not released, slumped over the steering wheel.

Sgt. Frank Tracey and Officers Sean Wilk and James High Jr. helped administer naloxone to the man, who was unconscious and had no pulse, Manna said. Police also performed rescue breathing, which is more commonly known as mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, until the man regained consciousness. About 10 folds of heroin were found inside the car, police also said.

He was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson with assistance from New Jersey State Police.

Information on charges was not immediately available.
